From our May Newsletter:
I’m not sure if you needed that reminder (I assume yes, especially given, you know… The World right now), but I definitely did. I had an active fear of new people that was really unhealthy. I didn’t know how they could potentially hurt me – the judgments they’d levy against me, the offensive words they might say — so anything bad was a possibility. It didn’t occur to me that the exact opposite could be true, too.
I think we’ve forgotten what this sense of community is like. It’s not just our inner circle, it’s the net that forms outside of it and bolsters it. It makes us more open-minded, and it makes us braver. We know more when we talk to people. We get better at learning and asking deeper questions. (We get better at asking questions, period!).
Maybe you’re like us and hate “being a bother.” You don’t want to be “that person” who throws a wrench into the plans or points out a mistake on their order. Somehow over the years you’ve developed a sense of fear towards putting yourself in positions that feel exposed to someone else’s censure, apathy, or flat out rejection. I love the push Nicole is giving us this month to, well, get over it. She’s on a quest to tackle some big questions and it requires getting into the uncomfy places alongside other (new!) people. It takes a lot of bravery and humility to accept that other people usually are nice, helpful, and hopeful, and I love that she’s reminding us of this. What a perfect way to ease into a new summer . . .
If you want to read her full essay, you can sign up for our newsletter below! We write about real stuff that affects our hearts and yours, and share the things we’re loving lately (think books, recipes, links, favorite finds, articles, ect). We love to throw in our best design tips and behind the scenes peeks too.
Can’t wait to see you there!
