We just have to say it: we have the most amazing clients doing the most amazing things. And today after months of work on the funnest project ever, we finally get to show it off! Ever heard of Workshop Week?! You’ll thank us later.
Enter Becca Courtice. Becca has been a longtime Design Lab buddy who we’ve worked with over the years, popping in for the occasional PDF here or Youtube thumbnail there. If you don’t know her, she’s the talent behind The Happy Ever Crafter. She’s an incredible artist and modern calligraphy instructor with an amazing knack for teaching and a brilliant sense of humor (que the dad jokes).
After realizing her hobby was more than just a jobby, she left her corporate job to pursue calligraphy full-time. Since then, her brand has grown into one of the largest in the calligraphy biz! She’s had over 100,000 students, has traveled to over 16 countries to teach, and has an audience of 1.5M over platforms.
Creative soul that she is, three years ago Becca came up with the AWESOME idea to host a weeklong series of workshops with her artist friends teaching people how to do basically anything . . . and for free!!
I mean, it’s only an artist’s ultimate dream, okay? Becca tapped into her community’s always-downness to try new crafty skills and harnessed her artistic friend’s talents to come up with the ultimate virtual art event.
Over the course of 5 days each June, she would host a massive roundup of virtual workshops taught by artists from all disciplines, from painting to mixed media, drawing, digital art, calligraphy, and more.
Participants could live stream one or all the workshops that they choose for completely free with tons of opportunities for live chats, communities, prizes, and more. Think of it like a virtual music festival sans the music plus art. You get the picture. Genius.
Workshop Week became one of the busiest seasons and most successful offerings of Becca’s brand (how could it not?!), but with the exploding popularity, Becca knew they needed a more put-together online presence going forward that would allow the experience to grow!
And that’s where we came in!
Our job was to build upon the visuals that already existed in a cohesive, comprehensive, and efficient way.
Becca didn’t want anything particularly fancy or sophisticated because Workshop Week is all about digging in, getting messy and creative, and learning how to do it yourself. But she knew they did need a digital presence that felt more cohesive and branded, and spoke to the incredible expertise and effort being put into the experience!
So that was really our project with this one, using design to help translate all the work of Workshop Week and show it off!
Communication is key when you’re talking about an event of this scale. So first up we redesigned their speaker thank you boxes, all social media assets, and marketing materials, as well as templates for all the Workshop Week students and instructors.
The templates included highly detailed but simple schedules, comprehensive supply guides for each workshop session, coupon books, and sharable stories for the students and affiliate assets, thumbnails, and info packets for the instructors. Guys, when we say detailed we mean it. Like, they thought of everythinggggg. And we got it all out visually in a way that just unlocked the magic.
The idea? Providing unbelievably streamlined information that leveled up the experience to world class. Everything was incredibly easy to understand and all the information was correct and in one place. In what could be a nightmare (hello trying to coordinate dozens of artists around the world virtually, not to mention thousands of participants), well thought out design kept everybody on the same page and wanting more.
Another huge goal for the project was building branding that would last and grow for the long haul. We worked on concepts to brand each Workshop Week differently in years to come and helped build up the infrastructure of the brand so that they had tons to work with in the future. Now it’s a matter of editing and swapping . . . not coming up with everything from the ground up.
You know we’re already sharpening our pencils for next year’s extravaganza. We’d LOVE to see you there! You can join the waitlist for Workshop Week 2025 here and follow along with Becca’s crafty and playful brand online, or on Instagram, @thehappyevercrafter.
