How to Break Up Big Blocks of Text, Part 1
We’re on a mission to make design easier! Every week, we answer a question from our Design Hotline— an Instagram line where we walk you through your biggest design questions! Here’s a submission we recently answered.
BEFORE
Designing with a large amount of text got you stumped? Here are some ideas to help you break it up and create beautiful layouts!
- Break text into two columns so paragraphs look more bite-sized
- If you don’t have photos or illustrations, don’t be afraid to use your headings more graphically. Bump up their font size and play with font styles.
- If you can edit or reformat your text to have more subheadings and/or bullet points, that will make your copy more interesting and easy to digest, too.
- Don’t be afraid of whitespace. Break new sections onto their own pages, increase the space between paragraphs, or increase your margins a tad.
- Sometimes a header or a footer helps ground the rest of the design and is a nice subtle place to brand and put copyright info.
